Lohmann & Rauscher's B2B platform carries around €200M in revenue per year — roughly a quarter of the group's total revenue of about €800M. It isn't a marketing channel; it's core sales infrastructure. Since 2022 I've owned UX and UI for this platform and kept developing it, working closely with the international marketing and design team.

Starting Point

A B2B portal that had grown over years, carrying around 60,000 line items, could no longer carry its weight as the company's central sales channel. A meaningful share of orders still came in by fax.

There was no usable mobile experience, even though partners and field sales were increasingly working from tablets and phones. Navigating a catalog of this size was tedious, and the brand presentation was inconsistent across the different country markets. OXID's standard checkout only partially reflected the realities of B2B ordering.

Approach & Decisions

Rather than a cosmetic refresh, I approached the platform as a product that had to hold up over years and across borders.

At the core was a new, responsive information and navigation concept built for a 60,000-item catalog — focused on filtering and exploration so B2B customers can find what's relevant to them quickly. Alongside that, I built a dedicated UI component library: the foundation for a consistent, maintainable, internationally scalable presence instead of one-off solutions.

I aligned the brand presentation closely with the international marketing and design team, including the design lead in the US, resulting in a consistent look across the active country markets. I stripped down OXID's standard checkout and rebuilt it around real B2B workflows. On top of that, a configurator for complex medical custom orders (including compression materials) was integrated into the unified shop experience. All concepts were refined iteratively in workshops with the client and selected users.

Impact

Previously analog processes went digital: a continuous digital B2B ordering process replaced fax orders. The platform now works on tablet and phone, and presents a single, internationally aligned brand across the active country markets.

The checkout, rebuilt around B2B needs, and the new configuration option for custom orders replace manual handling with self-service.

The platform now carries around €200M in annual revenue and is being expanded group-wide as a strategic tool to digitize processes in connected business units.

Role & Collaboration

This isn't a closed project — it's ongoing product ownership since 2022.

I work cross-functionally with engineering, the international marketing and design team, and the design lead in the US, and align concepts directly with clients and end users.
