For a major German asset manager, I restructured the interface of a data-delivery system that had grown over the years — the tool used to prepare and deliver complex financial data for liquidity forecasts and fund-of-funds reporting. The challenge: make tens of thousands of records from different sources manageable in a single workflow, in a heavily regulated environment, built on top of Union Investment's existing design system.

Starting Point
The existing data-delivery system had grown organically over the years. Its Kanban interface reflected the system's historical logic more than how people actually worked.
For a tool that produces the data basis behind liquidity forecasts and fund-of-funds reporting, that's a real problem: tens of thousands of master, fund, and real estate records, plus thousands of yield calculations, need to move through the process reliably, traceably, and efficiently. In a regulated financial environment, clarity here isn't a nice-to-have — it's a precondition for results anyone can rely on.
Approach & Decisions
I worked research-first rather than giving the interface a cosmetic pass. Across several usability reviews, I captured what users actually needed and clustered it by category and priority in FigJam — which made visible exactly where the existing workflow was getting in people's way.
The key decision: restructure the Kanban interface around real workflows, not around the system's inherited structure. I carried the optimized UX flows into implementation in close collaboration with Union Investment's in-house development team.
I deliberately built on Union Investment's existing design system, reusing and adapting its components rather than introducing a parallel visual language — keeping the result consistent, maintainable, and compatible with the rest of the system landscape.
Impact
What had been a legacy, system-driven interface became a workflow shaped around how people actually work — built to reliably process tens of thousands of records through to the yield calculations built on top of them.
In feedback sessions and testing, users confirmed the interface was now noticeably easier and more intuitive to use, and the underlying business processes became measurably leaner.
Role & Collaboration
As Senior UX/UI Designer, I owned the UX optimization end to end — from user research through restructuring to validated flows — working cross-functionally with in-house development and within the client's existing design system.
